DLN Community Gives Back! $500 Donation To An Open Source Project MEGAFEST

Today we’re going to give a $500 donation to an open source project as part of our 30 Year’s Of Linux Megafest.

Post an open source project or organization that you would like to receive the donation. We will use a randomizer to randomly pick from the options suggested below.

  • Please make sure to list projects that accept donation (not all do).
  • If you can include the donation link that would be helpful.
  • Please make sure it is an open source project.

Thanks and happy 30 Years of Linux to all of you!

Update . . . and the Winner is VLC!

thank you all for participating and suggesting projects to donate to!

Aiming for high impact for the dollar amount.

terminalforlife invests a considerable of time in educating Linux users, answering questions, donating time to projects like cheat.sh and creating solutions to common problems.

Among the many projects, cito and autoexec are good examples of things created for the community, meticulously documented (even with man pages) and growing in popularity. Popularity has meant more demand for compatibility edge causes which he dutifully attends to and the projects are under constant improvement. It’s a lot of work but he puts in the time.

He’s a very humble guy so donation isn’t advertised but it is accepted. I can share his contact details if his projects are picked and it’d be wonderful to give him a boost.

I’m going to say KDE. KDE is awesome. IDK if there’s a way to donate to all the KDE things, like Kdenlive, Plasma, Konsole, all the things.

I would love to support Tenacity, and the awesome work they are already doing. They are using Open Collective to take donations. They will need monetary help to get the application onto Windows and Mac.

Zrythm - Digital Audio Workstation

Linux desperately needs a better DAW, as a passionate music production hobbyist, there not a lot of profession level audio programs for Linux.

The lack of good music production apps is a common reason music content creators do not switch to Linux. Having Zrythm ready for this demographic will give them the excuse they are waiting for to finally make the switch to Linux.

I’m on the element room for this app , and Alex the dev for Zrythm (same guy that makes carla!) works super hard on this like a full time job. I subscribe to him monthly builds to support the project. I really feel a bigger donation will really push this much needed addition to a processional Linux suite of apps.

Wow, this is pretty awesome! Thanks, DLN for giving back and allowing the community to vote for it. So many options; I’m a bit late but I’d have chipped-in for Mozilla / Firefox!
