I try to regularly attend the Orange County Linux Users Group, which meets at Cal State University Fullerton, in McCarthy Hall room 606, once a month on a Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM. The only requirement is that you are interested enough to show up at a meeting, or join our mailing list - all are welcome!
